We just finished our fractions unit: worked on plenty of models, word problems and computation. We discussed several strategies, worked in small group, took notes and reviewed a lot. We have also started reviewing standards learned in the beginning of the year. In spite of that, many students are struggling in general. I have usually seen that students feel overwhelmed or confused when they have to work on all standards together rather than one skill at a time.
It is very important that students study and practice math each day. This week, the homework was to work on zearn for 20 minutes each day. I just checked and see that less than 30 students have actually worked on zearn at home. Many students are submitting incomplete work. Please talk your children about completing the given homework and studying / practicing on a regular basis.
Some ways to practice:
1. Pick a skill and practice in math workbook (should be at home)
2. Math Blog: Look at lesson notes. Study guide and power points for all units are provided
3. Math Blog: Math resources. Games for all skills and practice tests provided.
4. Math Blog: Fraction study guide with practice pages
5. Saving graded classwork / quizzes and going over the missed problems.
6. Practice Fact Fluency
Fractions Test: Monday
We are reviewing decimal computation. Students should also be practicing adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals. Quiz- next week.
