Math Update

We just finished our fractions unit: worked on plenty of models, word problems and computation. We discussed several strategies, worked in small group, took notes and reviewed a lot. We have also started reviewing standards learned in the beginning of the year.  In spite of  that, many students are struggling in general. I have usually seen that students feel overwhelmed or confused when they have to work on all standards together rather than one skill at a time.

It is very important that students study and practice math each day. This week, the homework was to work on zearn for 20 minutes each day. I just checked and see that less than 30 students have actually worked on zearn at home. Many students are submitting incomplete work. Please talk your children about completing the given homework and studying / practicing on a regular basis.

Some ways to practice:
1. Pick a skill and practice in math workbook (should be at home)
2. Math Blog: Look at lesson notes. Study guide and power points for all units are provided
3. Math Blog: Math resources. Games for all skills and practice tests provided.
4. Math Blog: Fraction study guide with practice pages
5. Saving graded classwork / quizzes and going over the missed problems.
6. Practice Fact Fluency

Fractions Test: Monday
We are reviewing decimal computation. Students should also be practicing adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals. Quiz- next week.

A Note from the Music Room
My wonderful student teacher, Mr. Robinson, will begin a unit on Ukulele playing starting on Monday, January 27th. If your child has a ukulele, please have him/her bring his/her instrument to music on his/her music day. If your child does not have a ukulele, please do not worry. The school has instruments for students to use. If you would like to purchase a ukulele for your child, Guitar Center sells the Mahalo Rainbow Series MR1 Soprano Ukulele which is the type we have here at the school. Please contact me with any questions you might have.

Thank you,
Dr. Sampson

Math Update and Homework

Students worked on multiplying fractions and coordinate planes this week in school. They will have a quiz on this on Monday. They should be bringing home their math binder with notes on these concepts to study. They can also go on zearn to continue working on fractions concepts. Zearn login and password is glued in their agendas.

Report card reminder

For whatever reason, the ParentVue app isn't showing students report cards. You can view their full report card by going to https://parentvue.cobbk12.org/ and signing in as a parent.

Administration is trying to figure out the solution to this problem. I will let you know when it is fixed and available to view on the app.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition to online report cards.

Believe it or not, we are OUT of glue sticks!! Donations are greatly appreciated!

Your child's report card will be available for online view ONLY starting Friday, January 10th. If you have not signed up for ParentVue, please do so ASAP. We will NOT be sending home a paper copy of your child's report card or the report card signature envelope.

Please email or send a class dojo message to your child's homeroom teacher to confirm you have seen your child's 2nd quarter report card.

Thank you for your help with our school wide transition to paperless report cards.
