About Ms. Westbrook

August 5, 2016

We have had an AMAZING first week of school, and I have really enjoyed getting to know my homeroom students!  We have been super busy, we have been extremely productive with "first week stuff," and we are ready to begin rotations on Monday!

We have written our first personal narrative, we have taken the MI and RI (Math and Reading Inventories), and we have shared various things about ourselves to our classmates.  Here are some images from MWB's homeroom that we have done this week:

On the first day, we discuss how we can be RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, HELPFUL, AND SAFE leaders throughout the building, not just in our classroom~

Our classroom Mission Statement that the students' came up with~

Hollywood meets Addison!! (From L-R: Rivas, Jagannathan, Blackmon, Westbrook, Barkley).

We read LaRue Across America: Postcards from the Vacation.  Afterwards, the students used a post-it to tell something that they did over the summer.  Lots of trips, camping, and beaching!!!

On the first day of school, Kid President gave us a "pep talk."  Our goal was to tell how we can make this school-year AWESOME!  The kids did a great job!

How can we make this school-year AWESOME????

Dear 5th grade students and parents,

I would like to take the time to introduce myself to each of you.  My name is Mandi Westbrook and I was born and raised here in Georgia where I attended all Cobb County Schools growing up.  I graduated from McEachern High School in 1994, then attended LaGrange College.  There, I played soccer and fast-pitch softball for 4 years and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I received my Master's Degree in Education from Liberty University in December of 2014.

I am currently in my 19th year of teaching and have teaching experience now in every grade level, except for 1st grade.  I have taught kindergarten, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and now I am entering my second year teaching 5th grade! I began my teaching career in 1998 at Green Acres Elementary in Smyrna, Ga. where I taught for 7 years.  I spent 10 years of my career at Acworth Elementary in Acworth, Ga. before coming to Addison last school year.  My greatest honor in teaching is to have been selected as the Teacher of the Year at Acworth for the 2014-2015 school year!

Some of my hobbies include mountain biking, refinishing furniture, attending Auburn football games, and playing golf.

Here are some of my favorite things:

*  Auburn Tigers!
*  Reece's Peanut Butter Cups
*  Atlanta Braves baseball
*  The color blue (all shades)
*  Going to the beach (ANY beach will do!)
*  Pizza, hot dogs, and chicken wings!
*  Science, Reading, and Writing
*  My dogs (Maggie, Abbie, Gunner, and Charlie)
*  My family
*  Cooking
*  Trying new restaurants
*  Listening to Music and adding to my collection on iTunes
*  Coffee, Diet Coke, and Ice Water
*  Shopping (Vineyard Vines, JCrew, Target, and Publix are my favs)
*  TEACHING!!!

 I am looking forward to an excellent school year learning, growing, and leading with each of my students!

Whew!  Yesterday was QUITE the experience here at Addison.  In order to raise money for Addison Elementary School's Foundation some of the other 5th grade teachers and I participated in the "Decorate a Teacher" Experience.  The students and their families bid on the experience and the highest bidders won the chance to "decorate" Mrs. Barkley, Mrs. Rivas, and myself.   All money raised goes to our Foundation here at Addison!

Here are some pictures from the "Decorate a Teacher" Experience... obviously, the kids had a BLAST!!

Enjoy~

MWB, before.

Dear Parents and Students,

    I would like to take this time to say THANK YOU for the amazing week I have had during Teacher Appreciation Week.  You have all made me feel so special, and have spoiled me rotten!!  I cannot wait to divulge into the wonderful snacks you have given me that cover all the bases of Ms. Westbrook's favorite things, the flowers that I have received are absolutely beautiful and are going to look amazing in my house, and I am so thrilled to have so many "Valentine's" today, and every day.

    Addison truly is a special place to be, and I am so grateful that my journey in education has landed me here with such amazing people!  I hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing Winter Break!

                                                                          Thank you again!
